Password & Hash Generator

Create cryptographically secure passwords, UUIDs, MD5 and SHA256 hashes.

Runs privately in your browser — your input is never uploaded or tracked.

Secure Password Generator & Hash Calculator (MD5, SHA-256)

Generate strong random passwords, UUIDs, and cryptographic hashes in one free online tool. The password generator uses your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator (Web Crypto), so every password is genuinely unpredictable — with full control over length, symbols, numbers, and letter case.

The hash calculator produces MD5 and SHA-256 digests from any text instantly, which is handy for verifying file checksums, generating cache keys, comparing values, or testing hash-based logic. Everything runs locally: no password or input string is ever transmitted, stored, or logged.

How to Generate a Strong Password or Hash

  1. Choose what to generate

Pick a random password, a UUID, or a hash (MD5 / SHA-256) of your own text.

  2. Set your options

For passwords, choose the length and whether to include uppercase, numbers, and symbols. Longer is stronger — aim for 16+ characters.

  3. Generate instantly

Results are created locally using cryptographically secure randomness — regenerate as many times as you like.

  4. Copy and use

Copy the password or hash with one click and store passwords in a password manager, never in plain text.

Why Use This Password & Hash Generator?

  • Cryptographically secure randomness

Passwords are generated with the Web Crypto API, not the predictable Math.random().

  • Customizable character sets

Control length and toggle symbols, digits, and case to satisfy any site's password policy.

  • MD5 and SHA-256 hashing

Hash any string instantly for checksums, cache keys, and integrity comparisons.

  • UUID generation included

Need a unique identifier instead? Generate standards-compliant UUIDs in the same tool.

  • Nothing leaves your device

Passwords and hash inputs are processed entirely in your browser — ideal for sensitive values.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long should a strong password be in 2026?

At least 16 characters with a mix of upper/lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Length matters more than complexity — a 20-character random password is vastly harder to crack than an 8-character 'complex' one.

Is it safe to generate passwords in the browser?

Yes — this tool uses crypto.getRandomValues(), the same secure randomness source used by password managers, and the password never leaves your device.

Is MD5 still safe to use?

MD5 is broken for security purposes (collisions can be manufactured) and must not be used for password storage or signatures. It remains acceptable for non-security uses like checksums, deduplication, and cache keys. For anything security-related, use SHA-256 or stronger.

Can a SHA-256 hash be reversed?

No — SHA-256 is a one-way function. The only 'reversal' is guessing inputs and comparing hashes, which is why strong, salted hashing (bcrypt, Argon2) is used for passwords in real systems.

What is the difference between hashing and encryption?

Encryption is reversible with a key; hashing is one-way. You encrypt data you need back (messages, files) and hash data you only need to verify (passwords, integrity checks).
